Grey Diamond Afghan Pattern

Hi, everyone.  It seems the heat has become a bit more bearable for us but still too warm for me during the day.  I do go out around 8 each evening as does a lot of our little community to enjoy the cool breezes coming in from the ocean.  But during most of the day, you will find me inside working on something. Today I am going to share an afghan I just finished up.  I call it the Grey Diamond Afghan.

Vintage, Paint and more... crochet afghan made with I Love That Yarn in a diamond pattern

Isn't it gorgeous?  I love how the stitches make those wonderful diamonds.  And the colors are just so warm and inviting.  This one is also a gift and I can't wait to give it to that person.

I love scouring Pinterest for beautiful, interesting and new to me crochet patterns I found this pattern on Pinterest.  It was a free pattern from the Canada Michael's site however they have since taken it down so I will be adding the pattern at the end of this post.

I used a yarn I have never used before that I bought at Hobby Lobby.  The brand is "I Love This Yarn!"  And I have to say I definitely agree with the name.  It is 100% acrylic, so soft and so easy to work with.  It comes in 7oz skeins and is only $3.99 each at our Hobby Lobby but was on sale when I purchased it.
I used the colors:
White - 3 skeins
Graymist (the light gray) - 3 skeins ( but you will have most of one skein left Greybeard (the dark gray) - 2 skeins.

I used a "J" crochet hook to make this afghan.  The size is approximately 44 x 54.

This pattern is not without its challenges. A large portion of the pattern is obtained by making an 8 double crochet back-post stitch ( 8dcbp ) that makes the ridges around each diamond you see.  It did take me a couple tries to get the gist of the pattern down.  But after I made a couple of rows I was able to move along quite easily.  Usually, they have a skill level but I didn't see one on this pattern so I would have to say it is medium on the hard scale - it's definitely not for beginners.  Would I make this pattern again? I really doubt it.  Don't get me wrong I love this afghan - the pattern, the texture, the beauty of the stitches however I do like a pattern that I can mindlessly do and watch TV or have a conversation with someone and this is not it - you really have to keep your mind on what you are doing or you are ripping out stitches and redoing.  Don't ask me how I know this.

I am adding the written pattern for you since Michael's took down the pattern on their site.  I am terrible at writing crochet patterns - I have checked it and hope there are no errors in it.

  5. Cathy, it really is gorgeous! We don't get the humidty here, so it's never too hot for me. But then I can take the heat easier than the cold. If it's warmer than I like I just find shade. lol! Hope it cools down for you soon! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  17. I inherited the same afghan from my grandmother, it's a treasure! I've been scouring the Internet looking for the pattern, so that I can crochet one for my sister. The link to the pattern no longer seems to work. Do you know if there is anyway of obtaining this patteren? It would be so a joy to make the same one :)
