7 Wonderfully Cozy Crocheted Afghans

Happy Monday everyone, how was your weekend?  We are finally getting some nice Fall temps here in the South and was able to spend our days outside enjoying them.  The evenings are starting to cool down a bit - enough for a light jacket or a nice throw.
I love sitting out on our patio in the early morning at this time of year. Enjoying a great cup of coffee and a nice warm blanket to get ready for the upcoming days' routines.  This is my time to relax, meditate and revel in Mother Nature's beauty.  With cooler mornings come the cooler evenings when I curl up on the couch with my favorite afghan or throw to watch an old movie or read a great book.  

I have made several of these cozy afghans and thought I would share them with you this morning so you too, can make your own if you so choose.  Each one can be done in the color scheme of your choice and run from easy to moderately difficult on my scale of difficulty.  Just click on the link below the picture and it will take you to the pattern instructions to make it. 

Tribal Inspired Ripple Design Crochet Afghan

I have been sitting by the fire crocheting up a storm these past few chilly months - yes, it has been chilly at the beach. I have completed one afghan and nearly completed a second one.  The one I am showing you today is for my oldest son and is crocheted in an old fashioned Ripple Design using the tribal inspired colors that he loves.

  

"Frozen" Inspired Crochet Afghan

Hi everyone.  Hope your weekend was great. We had the most awesome weekend.  Our oldest grandson was visiting and we spent the weekend  with him and his sisters.  It was one of those rare times when they were all able to be home at the same time.  We had so much fun cooking, eating, laughing and playing. I love those times but I am ready to get back to "normal". We have not had that since before Thanksgiving.
With the chilly temps we are all experiencing I thought I would share my most recent crochet afghan with you. Maybe the thought will keep you warm. This one I made for Miss "A".

Of course, it's a "Frozen" inspired afghan for her "Frozen" themed room.  She is still enamored with the "Frozen" movie.  Her room is done mostly in shades of purple with some touches of baby blue and of course, white. She has all sorts of snowflakes and "Frozen" wall decor so it was obvious she needed a snowflake afghan. Right?

 When perusing Pinterest I found a Beginner's Round Ripple Crochet Afghan pattern and knew that it would be perfect for this project.  This particular pattern was done by "Smooth Fox Crochet and Knit" and is free for your personal use.  It is a very easy pattern to follow. Done in double crochet stitches it works up very quickly. I had no problems at all with the instructions.

I used an "I" crochet hook to make mine and my favorite yarn - Hobby Lobby's "I Love That Yarn".  I used two 8oz. skeins of each soft blue, orchid, and white. The only change I made was to add a Picot edging around it to make it more "ruffly" and snowflake looking. I also did not follow how she did her color changes but did mine more randomly. 

This is the first time I have done a round afghan and found it to be quite simple to do.

I love how it turned out - it looks great in Miss "A's" room with her other "Frozen" decor. And, of course, it's Miss "A's" favorite now. 
I really have to get started on putting my house back together now.  I have all the decorations put away but alas, our house is quite bare.  Hopefully, I will get to that this week.  However it has turned quite chilly for the South and I have been spending these last couple of days by the fire crocheting another afghan.  What have you been up to?  I love to hear from you so tell me about it in the comments below.

Today I would like to share an afghan with you that I just finished.  It's a large crochet granny square afghan that is so simple a beginning crocheter could easily make this one in very little time.

Hi, everyone.  It seems the heat has become a bit more bearable for us but still too warm for me during the day.  I do go out around 8 each evening as does a lot of our little community to enjoy the cool breezes coming in from the ocean.  But during most of the day, you will find me inside working on something. Today I am going to share an afghan I just finished up.  I call it the Grey Diamond Afghan.  

Another Crocheted Afghan

Good morning everyone.  Hope you all are keeping cool during this early summer heat wave we are experiencing. Our pool is still under construction so I am using this time to do a little crocheting. Today I would like to share the afghan I just recently completed.

I usually don't crochet through the summer months but I am on a goal to make several this year for gifts for Christmas.  So I have been taking advantage of these hot afternoons to stay inside and get a little crocheting done and catch up on a movie or two.

This afghan pattern is called Leaping Stripes and Blocks and the free pattern can be gotten here at Moogly.  She has written the pattern so you can make it in any number of sizes from a preemie blanket to a king size blanket and the instructions are quite easy to follow.

I used a Michael's brand yarn called Loops and Threads.  It is 100% acrylic and comes in 14oz skeins.  The colors I used are :

Aran (white) - 2 skeins

Aqua (blue) - 2 skeins

Forest (green) - 2 skeins.

I used a J crochet hook.

These colors remind me of a 70's color scheme but it is the colors that this person has in a favorite chair in their room also.  

This is a close up of the pattern - it's done in double crochets and chains - so is quite simple to do.  Once you have done the first 2-3 rows it is just a repeat and goes quite fast.  The border is just 2 rows of single crochet all around.

I love this pattern and the result is quite pretty even if it is 70's colors.  I have already started another one in shades of grey and white - I will be sharing it with you soon.

Crochet Afghan and Stenciled Pillow

I love to crochet in the winter - especially afghans.  There's just something about handling the softness of the yarn and letting the finished part of the afghan drape over my lap while I work.  I have made an afghan for everyone in my immediate family at some point in the past.  So when I started this one I decided it would be for our family room and picked the colors accordingly. But soon into the project Papa requested that it be for him since he had never received one.  He is always hot and never uses a blanket at all until recently.  Now he wants his own!

Crochet Blanket Edging

I have been cleaning out my closet over the last couple of weeks.

Yep, it took me that long to dig through

everything that was in there

and

"declutter" it...

 And, boy did I find a lot of forgotten "stuff".

One of the things I found was this little blanket.

I had bought this to put in Miss A's room when I redid it.

I had wanted to crochet an edge around it

to dress it up a bit.

But, it was summer and for some reason I just hate to

crochet in the summer.

That is a craft I do only when the temps are cool -

fall and winter...

So, it got put back and totally forgotten.

When I found it I  decided no better time than now to finish it.

I added this sweet little scallop edging to it

and

I think it really dresses it up.

(And so does this cute little purple dude.)

It's a very simple edging that I like to add to these plain fleece blankets

to dress them up a bit.

I have done this to several we have here.

This edging is quite simple

because

I use the already existing blanket stitch around the edge

of it for my base.

You can see it better here -

I have just crocheted each stitch in the stitches of the blankets edge.

The pattern is as follows:

( Now I hope this makes sense as I do not write crochet patterns.)

Also this is a pattern I made up in my head.

I start by attaching the yarn in a stitch anywhere except a corner.

I then single crochet in each stitch all the way around the blanket.

At each corner I increased as needed to keep the piece lying flat-

with no puckers.

I do this by making two single crochets in about every third or fourth stitch.

This will be different for each  blanket.

Join the first row with a slip stitch in the first single crochet,

chain one and single crochet in same stitch.

Skip the next single crochet then do 5 double crochets in the next single crochet,

skip the next single crochet,

do a single crochet in the next single crochet.

Then repeat this pattern all the way around.

(* skip 1 sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip next sc, sc in next sc*) repeat

all the way around the blanket

slip stitch in beginning stitch and tie off leaving a short tail

to weave in.

A very simple and easy crochet pattern that makes such a difference

on one of these plain fleece blankets.

I love doing these. 

The blankets are quite inexpensive and the pattern is simple.

It took me all of two hours to do this whole blanket.

And.

what a cute gift this would make for someone

for Christmas.

Think you might want to make a couple of these for Christmas gifts?

You can also just buy the fleece in a 1 1/2 yard or 2 yard lengths,

then punch your own holes.

Then do a blanket stitch around it and proceed with the edging

pattern after that.

I have made several this way also.

I just use a plain old paper punch.

(Your hand will get tired)

But, when I want a certain look or pattern I have done this.

It still is quite simple and can be finished in an evening.

So, get yourself a cute little blanket and crochet a cute little edge

on it to keep you warm this winter.

And maybe this sweet little purple dude will come visit you...
