Drop Cloth and Lace Purse

Written by: Cathy Carroll

Today I have another drop cloth project for you.
If you have followed me for very long
you have come to realize I am in love with drop cloths.
I mean - In Love...
They are so versatile and easy to work with
wear like iron.
I use them to make everything.
(I get mine at Lowe's Hardware for $10)
So, it should come as no surprise that I used a drop cloth
when my granddaughter requested I make her a new purse.

Drop Cloth and Lace Purse - purse made from drop cloth fabric and embellished with a lace medallion

What do you think?
Cute  - isn't it.
She loves it.
I did not write a tutorial on this but, I can give you some details
about it.
I used an old Simplicity pattern that is no longer available.
(Guess I've had that one for a while)
Simplicity carries several purse patterns
I am sure they one very similar to this style yet.

I used the drop cloth for the outside of the purse
lined the inside with a sheet.
I use Wal -Mart's sheets for everything also.
(Lots of fabric for a small price and they wear like iron)
To give the purse some stability I used heavy duty iron on interfacing.
You can find this wherever they sell fabric.
I actually used two layers to help keep its shape.

I used a lace applique on the front flap to dress it up a bit.
I have come to really love the look of the delicate lace
against the roughness of the drop cloth.
The two textures are just beautiful together.
It was so simple to make also -
took me about two hours to cut it out and put it together.

I am so pleased with the outcome
most important of all -
She Loves It......
What do you think - maybe you will be making yourself a new purse?
Would you use drop cloth fabric for one?
