Here it is the last few days of July - some of the hottest days of the year here - as in most areas of the country. With the hot temps and high humidity, I find I nearly melt down into my shoes when I go outside. Working on any projects that require me to be outside is totally out of the question. I also find that these days tend to make me feel quite lazy and laid back so basically doing any projects just isn't in the stars right now. So, today instead of a project I thought I would share a nice refreshing cool treat that has become my go to for these hot summer days - Delicious Fruit Infused Water.
I gave up soda a long time ago and I have never been a fruit juice drinker - too sweet for me. I love sweet tea but I am also trying to keep my refined sugar intake at a minimum and do not use sugar substitutes if possible. So with all those self-imposed restrictions that leaves very little for me to drink except coffee (which I will never give up) and water. I don't know about you but after a while, water can become quite blah and basically tasteless. So I had to find a way to step it up a bit and make it a refreshing tasty drink to satisfy my thirst and keep me hydrated. I have tried many of the flavored waters on the market but haven't found one to my liking. Either they have an after taste or they are filled with chemicals and sugars that I don't want to ingest. So I set out to make something that would work for me.
I had seen several types of fruit infused waters and thought they looked so refreshing so I decided to make my own. Basically, you can use any combination of fruits and or vegetables and herbs you like. I decided to use strawberries, blueberries and a lemon to make mine. It's so simple and takes just minutes to make.
To make this little party in a glass like mine all you need is one strawberry - sliced, 5-6 blueberries and a slice of lemon halved. I fill my glass or mason jar
with ice and water first. ( You can use tap water or bottled water - it's whatever you prefer.) Then I cut the end of the lemon off and squeeze the juice into my glass, stirring it a bit. Next, I add the sliced strawberry, the blueberries, and the lemons. You don't have to use this combination - think oranges slices along with lemon and a bit of mint. Or watermelon, strawberries and a bit of basil. Sliced oranges with pineapple, mmmm. Strawberries and pomegranate. There's really an endless list of combinations you can use - it's all a matter of what you like.
When you get the combination you love just add a pretty little straw
to your mason jar and wallah - you have a nice cool, refreshing glass of water that is also tasty and healthy for you. I have found you can refill your glass with water once and then the fruit may need to be refreshed to keep the flavor. What combo would you choose to use?
What have you been doing to keep cool on these long summer days?
Until next time keep cool and have fun creating what you love.
I will be linking up to the parties on the Where I Party page. Please visit these wonderful parties and see all the great inspiration found there.
I must admit I also find plain water a bit "bleh" Cathy so I love your idea of infusing it with fruit. I'm really keen to try it with some pomegranates and maybe a dash of lime
