Toolbox to Spring Centerpiece

Written By: Cathy Carroll

Like most of you I am anxiously awaiting Spring.
I thought maybe it was here;
only to have rain and cold temps reappear for the last three days.
So, I decided to make some of my own Spring
by
making this cute little tool box into a Spring Centerpiece.

Toolbox to Spring Centerpiece - toolbox centerpiece title

This was a very easy and simple project.
I found this toolbox at a yard sale last fall
and
intended on making it into a centerpiece for our dining table.
But, just never got around to it.
So, I pulled it out last week along with a few other things to
start making them over.

Toolbox to Spring Centerpiece - original toolbox - no paint

Here you can see its original look.
It's in great condition just needs a little sprucing.
So, I decided Spring centerpiece it would become.

Toolbox to Spring Centerpiece - chalkpaint toolbox with chalkboard and stenciling

I first painted it with white DIY chalk paint
and
then I painted a rectangle of black chalkboard paint.
Then I got out my trusty little stencil
and
went to town.
Someone really needs to take these stencils away from me.

Toolbox to Spring Centerpiece - stenciled toolbox and spring flowers

I filled it with some flower foam and covered that with moss.
Then I placed some faux spring flowers and ivy on top of the moss.
A few tiny flower pots and a tiny little bird complete the scene.
But, sometimes I just can't leave well enough alone.

I just had to add a large white rabbit to the vignette.
This is an old buddy of mine that I have had for years.
I set all of it on a grass mat and have it on the ottoman in the living room.
I think this little toolbox centerpiece definitely adds some much needed cheer
to these very dismal and gloomy days right now.

  16. This fantastic!! I'm definitely going to do this!! But I think I will make it into a toolbox that I can use for every holiday! If I do a basic color...like your white...and make the area that you have painted black into a chalkboard then finish with an outdoor varnish!! I wouldn't cover the chalkboard area though! Thanks for the great idea!!
