It's hard to believe but, Valentine's Day is next week - where has this new year flown to already. I know we have had a very busy beginning and am hoping it slows down a bit so I can do more sharing here. But, for today I thought I would share our Valentine mantel with you all.
I
don't do a lot of decorating for Valentine's day but, I do try to change our mantel out to give us a bit of fun and change during the long winter months. This year I used mostly things I had on hand as starting from new was just not going to happen. I started with the white yarn wreath that I used on with our Christmas mantel.
Here it is with a red and black buffalo plaid deer in the center. For Valentine's day, I simply removed the deer head and replaced it with the heart sign I got a Dollar Tree. I wrote "Be Mine" on it with a white chalk paint pen. Easy peasy and a whole new look.
I then ran a cute little red and white garland down the center of the mantel. I made this by tieing 6" strips of fabric and ribbon on a piece of twine. The fabric came from past projects - a simple project that creates a big bang in no time. I then added a chalk sign I made on a boxwood frame using chalk paste and silkscreen transfers from Chalk Couture. The little elf was made with a piece of scrap wood from other projects we have done. I just added some scrapbook paper, a bit of fur, a piece of knit for the hat and a bead nose. All things I had on hand. I will be putting instructions to make the elf on the blog later. I also added a white candlestick with a glittery red candle.
On the left side of the mantel, I added a white candlestick with a glittery red candle and a fabric red heart I made from some more scraps of fabric. I also made a pretty little flower arrangement in a small box I covered with patterned tissue paper. I got everything at Dollar Tree for this little arrangement.
So, for very little effort and cost I have a bit Valentine mantel that can add a bit of cheer in our home during these long wintry months.
