Glamorized Vanity

Written by Cathy Carroll

Today I am going to show you a vanity I just redid.

Vintage, Paint and more... old vanity refurbished with new wood front

This piece was a piece that T brought home knowing I would love to do a makeover on it. He was not wrong. It had perfect bones to work with.  But when my granddaughter Mimi saw it she called dibs on it.  She had to leave her vanity behind when they moved and had been wanting one to replace it. (only so much room in a truck). What you don't see here is the fact it had a large hole right in the middle of the front where you see the lighter wood piece.  So T replaced the holey piece with a new piece of wood.  It is curved and required some soaking in water and curving ever so slowly.  But with time and patience it was achieved.

It was then turned over to me to get its beauty treatment.   I started by painting the base and legs black.  I used regular interior latex on this because that is the look that Mimi wanted.  I then painted the top and the fronts of the drawers and middle section with Valspar's Anthem White.  She wanted it to be a sort of glamorous piece - so it set for a while until we could come up with what she thought would be the perfect look.

I gave the legs a dipped paint look by spray painting them with Rustoleum's Metallic Gold.

Then I spray painted the inside of the vanity with the same gold paint to give it a glamorous metallic look. So gorgeous!

The inside of the drawers were painted with the same black as the base of the vanity as she thought it would be too much glam to spray them with gold.

Then I added a bit of whimsy to the top with a flower stencil I bought at Wal-Mart and a Painters Gold Metallic Pen. This is not difficult but does take some patience to do.

She loves the finished look and says it is just what she imagined.  I love the finished look and think she has a good eye for glam. But most of all I am thrilled that we were able to save this poor piece from going to the dump because it did have potential....
What do you think?

This weekend we will be moving into a new home and even though I have tried to get ahead I was unable to do as much as I had wanted to do on the blog.  So, I will be having a few guests posting some very wonderful projects for you.  I will be back in full swing in the middle of November and have a lot of great ideas for you for the holidays.  Be sure to come and see what our guests are bringing us - I know you are going to love them as much as I do.

Until next time - enjoy creating something you love.
Hugs,

I will be linking up to the parties listed on the I Party At page.  Please go and visit these wonderful parties and check out all the great inspiration found there.
