Easy Twine Wrapped Acorns

A couple of weeks ago I got the idea that I needed to clean my closet out a bit - a job I was not too interested in (not fun) nor enthusiastic about.  As I was rummaging through some of the drawers I came upon a partial bag of paper mache eggs left over from a project I had done a couple of years ago.  I set them aside and kept digging and found a few other supplies that gave me an idea to make with them. So I got busy and before long - I had some twine wrapped acorns for my Fall baskets.

Aren't they the cutest and so much more fun to make than clean out a closet. (Something I put on the back burner for another day.)  I fell in love with their rustic quality and think I may just have to make a few more.  They're very easy and take very little time as you will see.

        Easy Twine Wrapped  Acorns


To start with you will need:

• A paper mache "egg" form.
• Some twine
• Glue gun and glue
• Pair of scissors
• A couple of  medium size pine cones

Start at one end of the egg and begin wrapping it with the twine - gluing as needed to attach it.   Glue the twine about 2/3 of the way up the egg - leaving the last third undone.  It will look like the one below.

Next, you will need the pine cones.  The ones below are some I've had for quite a while.  They are fairly light in color because I had bleached them some years ago.  You do not need to that though - just use the ones you have.

You'll need to break off each individual seed from the middle cone part.  Mine were quite dry and somewhat brittle so I was able to just basically peel them off - one at a time.  If yours are not easy to peel off a pair of wire cutters or small garden shears will do the work easily.  Be careful as some of them have some sharp little points on them. (Don't ask me how I know.)

After you have a bit pulled off begin gluing them on one by one starting just above the line of the twine.  Go completely around the egg.  It should look something like the one below.

Continue to glue them around the egg in rows until you reach the very top.  

When you're done they should look something like the ones above.

I placed mine in a basket on my entry table with some of the little Fabric Pumpkins I made and shared with you last week. I also have a ceramic blue pumpkin I did an upcycle on a couple years ago.  You can read about it here.  It's quite a drastic change from the original.

Both the fabric pumpkins and the twine wrapped acorns are quick and easy projects that take supplies you probably have lying around your house.  So simple but make such a great addition to your Fall decor whether it be neutral or traditional, modern or rustic. They fit into any decor.
