I don't do much decor for Valentines Day but I do like to acknowledge the holiday a bit for Miss A. So I put together a vintage vignette for our entry and thought I would share that with you today.
I started with the chalkboard made from an old picture I had. I hung another frame inside of it that I made into Valentine art. You can find the tutorial for that here. A very simple project that takes 30 minutes tops if you have the materials on hand. Love those kind the most.
To the left of the chalkboard I placed a "vintage" clock that Miss A gave me for Christmas. I love the lines of this clock - it actually reminds me of an old pocket watch. I decided to sit it on top of a stack of old books tied with some raffia.
On the right I placed a lamp I bought at the thrift store this last week and a small wire basket that I got from Marshall's last year. I filled the basket with little cloth hearts.
They are made from burgundy velvet and drop cloth - embellished with lace. I hand sewed each one of these while I was watching TV. Easy to do and so fun to make. Each one is different because of the lace or applique added to it. You can see I wrote "LOVE" on one with a Sharpie.
The lamp was such a great find. I got it at my favorite thrift store for $6. Wow! I had fully intended to paint it when I got it home but I got to looking at it and decided it was just too perfect. So I polished it up a bit with some furniture polish and it looks so lovely now.
Check out that perfect rich patina - I love how it mottled so well. Very vintage and just the perfect piece for this little vignette.
I'm very happy with this little bit of vintage in our entry. Just enough to let us know that the holiday is nearing.

ReplyDeleteYour Valentine vignette is lovely, Cathy. That wire basket is so cute ~ I collect wire baskets (far too many) and that one is adorable.
