Fall is finally in full swing here at the beach - we woke to 42* this morning (a bit low for us), but, I'll take it. I've been so looking forward to Fall and am so excited it finally made it. So, I thought I would share a bit of easy Fall decor with you. I love decorating for fall and the easier I can make it the better it is for me. I try to use pieces I already have on display and just add a touch here and there to make them more "fallish" - like this fabric rag wreath I have hanging almost year round. I simply added a cute little chalk sign to it and wallah - Fall is in the air.
Fabric Rag Wreath with Chalkboard Sign
What you will need:
- A finished wreath made according to the tutorial here
- A 4"x6" chalkboard
- Vintage Truck Add-on (Fall)
- Chalkology Paste
- Wire
- Crop-A-Dile Eyelet and Snap Punch by We R Memory Keepers | Blue Comfort Handle
- Johnson's Minwax Furniture Paste
I simply used my fabric rag wreath I made a few years back -
This is a really easy wreath to make - it just takes some time to do. I usually pick an afternoon and pick a good movie to watch while I do it. My DIL and I made two with muslin for my granddaughter's wedding and she was so surprised by how easy it was to make them. She swears she is craft challenged, lol... But, she made them in no time. The tutorial can be found here. The sign I placed on it is also quite simple to do.
Following are the steps.
I started with a little 4"x6" chalkboard I picked mine up at the Dollar Tree. These are the perfect size for using on wreaths. I first waxed it with some Johnson's Minwax Furniture Wax just to make it easier to remove the transfer from the board.
The Vintage Truck Add-on transfer has several Fall related words and images you can use to make several different signs and/or projects. I decided to use the words "corn" and "maze" and the cornstalk image which is actually made with two different images using the layered technique.
So I placed the transfer on the blackboard as seen above. Then using the Chalkology paste in Schoolbus Yellow, Bark, and White I placed a bit on the corn stalk parts as seen above. Next, I simply used a squeegee to spread the paste all over the stalks to make a marbled or dried out effect on the stalks. I also used the Schoolbus Yellow on the words.
This is how it looked. I added the bows on the cornstalks in Kiwi and the arrow I did with white. The above picture is how it looked when finished.
After the chalk was dry ( in just a few minutes) I punched a hole in each corner with my Crop-a-dile hole punch. I then placed the sign on the wreath in the position I liked and wired it to the wire frame. I love how it turned out - by just using a wreath I had and quick chalkboard sign. So easy, so quick and so cute... that's my kind of craft!
