Blue Wire Bird Cage with Succulents

Good morning everyone.  Today is Thursday and Miss A is heading back to school - a big 5th grader this year.  She is so excited because she has her favorite teacher again this year.  But enough about school - today is also

      Tweak It Inspiration Thursday

where we share a blog post from the   Share It One More Time Link Party that inspired us to do something in our own homes.  This week I am hosting.

Today I am featuring

Cecilia shared a wonderful wreath she made from an "O" she found in the 90% off aisle at Hobby Lobby.  What I loved about it was she took a plain piece and embellished it to make it fit into her home decor.  How many times have I been shopping and passed on something that was on clearance because it wasn't the right color or didn't really fit into my decor when just a tweak or two would make it a perfect fit for our home.

Vintage, Paint and more... My Thrift Store Addiction

So I took Cecilia's advice and when I was shopping at Hobby Lobby I found the cutest little wire bird cage - but it was all wrong for our decor.  It was a brownish red and looked a bit too rustic for me - I get that some people would love it this way but for me it needed a bit of sprucing up.  So remembering how Cecilia had spruced up that plain "O" I bought it to make it my own.

First I painted it a light blue with some craft paint we had.  That in itself made such a big difference. I could have left it at that but I had to take it a step further and embellish it a bit.

So I added some "faux" succulents and dried moss (all from the Dollar Tree)and made it into a darling little planter.

I think this is so much cuter than the original and best of all it fits right into our decor now. So remember when you're out shopping take another look at that bargain - it may just be the thing you are looking for if you give it a little tweak or two.
Be sure and check out Cecilia's blog where she shares all her great thrifted finds and how she tweaks them to make them her own and then uses them in such lovely and wonderful ways in her home.  She is always coming up with such creative ideas.  I love seeing what she is doing each week and I think you will too.
Have you found something in the bargain or clearance aisle that you passed on because it just didn't fit into your decor?  Think you may just tweak that next bargain and make it your own?  I love hearing from you so tell me about it in the comments below.
Until next time - have fun creating something you love.

I will be linking to the parties listed on the Where I Party page.  Please go by and check out all the great inspiration and creativeness found at each one.

  8. Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do? Love it as a planter Cathy. Cecilia is a very talented gal. I have that exact same O. One of my friends gave me it and a large oval turquoise one for Christmas last year. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
