A New Sofa

a coastal color scheme used in a neutral room by using colorful accessories

When we recently moved into this home we did not have a sofa for the living room.  We only had two and they went in the family room and loft area.  So we needed to purchase one for this room.  It took us a bit of shopping and discussing it until we finally all agreed on one. (For those of you who are new to the blog - we are a multi-generational family with four adults)

Unique Little Table

a small side table with built in electrical outlets and USB ports

Like most of you we are a family with many technological devices.  We have computers, I-pads, notepads, kindles, cell phones, etc - you know. With all these devices there is a problem of charging them in a dedicated spot.  I have tried charging stations but they get in the way and a lot of times I find these devices just plugged in wherever the owner happened to be and there was an electrical socket handy. One day I found a cell phone dangling from a socket in the dining room - really?

New House

a two story home

In October 2014 we purchased a new home and if you have been following me you know that we moved in the first part of November.  It took me a couple weeks (actually a lot more) to unpack and then the holidays were upon us. Then it was the new year and I was still trying to catch up so I never was able to post any pictures even though I had requests for them.  Today I am going to share the pictures taken on the day we moved in - just empty rooms.  This house is only 3 years old so needs no renovations - just our personal touch to make it our home. I will be sharing what we do with all of you as we do it.  But until then I only have these empty rooms to give you an idea of what we may be doing.

Crochet Afghan and Stenciled Pillow

A basket weave crochet afghan done in coastal colors with Red Heart Yarn

I love to crochet in the winter - especially afghans.  There's just something about handling the softness of the yarn and letting the finished part of the afghan drape over my lap while I work.  I have made an afghan for everyone in my immediate family at some point in the past.  So when I started this one I decided it would be for our family room and picked the colors accordingly. But soon into the project Papa requested that it be for him since he had never received one.  He is always hot and never uses a blanket at all until recently.  Now he wants his own!

Cozy Reading Corner

A cozy reading corner by the fireplace with comfy chairs and a fur throw
We have been having some very cold temps here lately scattered in among the Spring like temps that the South is known for.  But, we have been getting down in the low 20's at night and not getting much above 40 during the day.  That is cold here.  So today I thought I would share how I spend some of those cold afternoons and evenings.

DIY Valentine Mantel

a simple budget friendly Valentine mantel DIY'd with scrapbook paper LOVE sign

As I said in Thursdays post I really don't do too much decorating for Valentines Day.  If I had my way I would probably skip it all together but Miss A likes to see the different holidays decorations and enjoys helping with them. So I do just enough to satisfy her and no more.  Today I am going to show you our very simple Valentine mantel.

A Vintage Valentine Vignette

DIY chalkboard from an old picture, DIY Valentine art work from a frame and sheet music

I don't do much decor for Valentines Day but I do like to acknowledge the holiday a bit for Miss A.  So I put together a vintage vignette for our entry and thought I would share that with you today.
