Throwback Thursday - Haunted Halloween Village

It's Thursday and that means it is time for a post brought out of the archives.  In keeping with Halloween rapidly descending on us I am bringing out our little Haunted Halloween Village that Miss A made last year.

Vintage, Paint and more... a dollar tree christmas village painted as a halloween village

I love those little villages that come out every year whether it be for Christmas or Halloween but they can get rather expensive when you start adding all the little pieces. Last year I went to the Dollar Tree and bought 5 little Christmas houses, a package of the dark green pine trees, a package of little folk, some dried straw moss, and a glitzy purple spider web with a big spider. Then Miss A and I set about making our very own haunted village.

Vintage, Paint and more... a Halloween village made from Dollar Tree Christmas village pieces

We painted all the houses with black chalkboard paint and then where the snow would have been we added some glue and then sprinkled with pink and purple glitter.  Miss A loves glitter and she loves to put it on everything.  So why not a glitzy haunted village.  She painted the little folk all black and then brushed a little black paint on the pine trees and sprinkled some glitter on them too.

She then arranged them in a wooden tray with the dry straw moss.  She did a little urban renewal every other day so the village really never remained the same for long.  But, it was her project and for her to enjoy. She loved the spider web with the big spider and placed it at the back of the village.  That is about as scary and gory as we get with our Halloween decor.

This is a quick, easy and inexpensive little project you can do with the kiddos and they will have so much fun arranging and rearranging over the days before Halloween.  I must say I definitely like this one better than those expensive ones because this one was made by Miss A.

Do you put a Halloween village up each year? Would love to hear about it in the comments below.  I answer all comments with email.

Until next time - have fun creating something you love.
