Sunflowers for Fall

Written by Cathy Carroll

I love Sunflowers and I love to decorate with them in the Fall.  Usually you will find quite a few of them strewn about our home and on the porch.  I  use both the live ones and the faux ones. I like to put them in pots, vases, just lay them on a shelf or stuff them in wherever I can.  I think they are such a happy and cheerful flower.  So today I am bringing you a happy little arrangement that is quite simple to make.

Vintage, Paint and more... faux sunflowers in a vintage bronze trough with pinecones and milk bottles

I have had this bronze trough for years and I fill it with all sorts of things to go with whatever season it is.  For this fall I decided I wanted to fill it with sunflowers. First I put a 2x4 in the bottom of the trough to give height to the milk bottles I just picked up at Old Tyme Pottery.  I had purchased them for another project but decided to use them in here for the time being.  I filled each jar with one large faux sunflower and some faux berries and statis.

Then I stuffed some brown moss around the bottles to hide the board and the bottom. Next I placed some pine cones in around the bottles to give it some added eye candy.  The big ones came from our back yard and I bleached them last year.  The small ones I purchased some years back and have a bronze glitter on them that make them sparkle.

To finish this centerpiece off I placed a couple of Dollar Tree pears I wrapped with twine next to the trough. ( You all know my twine wrapping addiction if you have been coming here very long).I also placed a small pumpkin I painted white and then used some gold metallic rub on paint by Tim Holtz to highlight it.  I love the effects this paint can give projects.  A couple of faux leaves finish off this pretty little fall centerpiece.

Now I have my ever loved cheerful little sunflowers sitting on my table where I can see them at all times.

What is your favorite Fall flower? Would love for you tell me about them in the comments below.  I answer all comments through e-mail.

Until next time, have fun creating something you love.

  4. Hi there, Cathy! I'm visiting via Christine's "Table It!" blog party. I'm your "next-door-neighbor"! :-)

You did a beautiful job with this project! I wouldn't have the patience, but you stuck with it and really did a nice job! I love the tiered effect with all the different fall elements. This would look great all around the house!

Sunflowers are definitely in my top 3 of favorite fall flowers! They grow in abundance around here. I live about 15 minutes from the Kansas (The Sunflower State) border, so they're everywhere up and down the highways and byways!

Great job! Enjoy your week, and Happy Fall!!!
