TBT Retro Armoir

Last week I brought back the loft guest room that we redid for our grand kids one summer.  This week I thought I would bring back the retro armoir we did for that room as it is one of the focal points. I had a lot of fun doing this armoir because of the colors I chose for it.

We found this piece at a local consignment shop Inlet Queen's.  It was sitting in a corner all alone and had been marked down a couple of times.  We really needed a piece to house clothing in the loft guest room as there is no closet up there but, it was still a little more than I wanted to pay.

It is well made but did have some damage and I knew it would have to be painted.  But, after much indecision on my part,  Papa said to go ahead and get it.  So this little girl came home with me that day.  You really can't see the flaws in the picture but it does have some.

We patched the areas that needed patching and then sanded them.

The drawers also had some areas that needed attention along with one of them coming apart.  It just needed a little gluing.  The backing was all brittle but was still in one piece so we left it as it was.  Otherwise, this is really a well built piece.

I painted the outside of it with Valspar's Sweet Rhapsody - which is a funky retro blue. I made it into DIY chalk paint. The door I decided I would paint with Black chalkboard paint.  I thought this would make it a really fun piece.

I then decided to have some more fun so, I painted the inside with  Valspar's Key Lime made into DIY chalk paint.  I also painted the inside of the drawers with the same color.

I had seen these handles being used on kitchen cabinets and thought they were quite retro looking so decided to use the on this piece.  I think they actually make this piece stand out more.

Here she is in all her beauty.  I love the way she turned out.  So fun and funky for the space we planned it for.  If you want to see more of this make over you can read all about it at the retro loft guest room we put together for our teen grand kids to stay in when they visit.  We had such fun doing it and I loved the way it all came together to be so funky and retro.

Have you ever gone outside your usual color combos with a new fun and funky one?  How did it turn out for you?  Tell me about it in the comments below - I love to hear from you and answer all comments through email.

Until next time have fun creating something you love.

Hugs,
